Sliced Deli

Overview

Walking into Sliced Deli feels like stepping into a place where lunch still matters. Itโ€™s the kind of diner where the menu doesnโ€™t try to impress with gimmicks, yet the results keep locals coming back. Tucked along Electric Avenue at 701a Electric Ave, Lewistown, PA 17044, United States, this spot has quietly built a reputation for sandwiches that taste intentional, not rushed. Iโ€™ve stopped in more than once on busy weekdays and slower afternoons, and the experience stays consistent: quick greetings, steady pace behind the counter, and food that shows care from prep to plate.

What stands out immediately is how everything revolves around the slice. Meats and cheeses are cut fresh throughout the day, not stacked from pre-packaged trays. You can hear the slicer working behind the counter, which might sound minor, but itโ€™s a real process difference. According to guidance from the United States Department of Agriculture, freshly sliced deli meats retain better texture and moisture when handled correctly, and that shows up here in every bite. Turkey stays tender, ham doesnโ€™t dry out, and roast beef holds that rich, savory edge that pre-sliced versions often lose.

The menu itself is easy to read and even easier to customize. Cold subs, hot sandwiches, wraps, and classic diner sides are all there, with plenty of flexibility. I usually lean toward a turkey and provolone with crisp lettuce and onion, finished made-to-order so nothing sits too long. On another visit, a hot pastrami with melted cheese came out steaming and balanced, not overloaded. That balance matters. Industry research from the National Restaurant Association notes that diners increasingly value freshness and portion control over novelty, especially in neighborhood eateries, and this place clearly aligns with that shift.

Service plays a big role in the overall feel. Orders are taken with patience, even during a lunch rush, and questions about ingredients are answered clearly. That level of transparency builds trust, especially for customers with dietary concerns. From what Iโ€™ve seen, cross-contamination is taken seriously, with gloves changed often and prep surfaces wiped down between orders. Food safety studies consistently show that visible cleanliness increases customer confidence, and itโ€™s something you notice here without being told.

Reviews around town tend to echo the same themes: friendly staff, reliable quality, and food that tastes like it was made for you, not for a photo. One regular I spoke with mentioned stopping in weekly because the flavor never changes, which is high praise in the diner world. Consistency is hard to maintain, yet itโ€™s often what separates a forgettable lunch from a habit-forming one.

Location-wise, being right in Lewistown makes it an easy stop whether youโ€™re heading to work or just passing through. Parking nearby keeps things simple, and the atmosphere inside stays relaxed. Thereโ€™s no pressure to rush out, but turnover stays smooth, which tells you the systems behind the counter are working.

That said, the menu doesnโ€™t try to be everything at once. You wonโ€™t find experimental fusion dishes or rotating seasonal themes. For some, that could feel limiting, but itโ€™s also the point. The focus stays on house-sliced meats, straightforward recipes, and execution done right. If youโ€™re looking for a diner that understands its lane and delivers within it, this is the kind of place that earns repeat visits without asking for attention.

My first visit (of many). The Ruben panini was perfect. As was the pumpkin cake. Looking forward to my next time. The thanksgiving panini looks very interesting.

I absolutely love Sliced and every person who works here. The quality of food and offerings are 10/10, the service is the best Mifflin county. You cannot get a better lunch for such a great price anywhere else. Sliced is never a miss, and their owner and staff members are top notch. So glad to have a place like this to visit through the work week. Do not miss their catering offerings either. Sliced provided catering for a business function for me and the experience was fantastic. I love this place, can't say enough! Thanks for great service and great food!

Excellent food. I was greeted kindly upon entering the store with a smile. Very clean and kept Deli, nice atmosphere. I have eaten here twice now and the Club Sub and Caesar salad with crispy chicken were exceptionally delicious and fresh both times. I will definitely be returning for more.

We stopped here on a whim and couldn't be more pleased that we did. Very friendly folks working here and delicious sandwiches. I got the Italian and their bread rolls are phenomenal. Just heavy enough to hold up but still so soft. Quality meat and good toppings. The only downside is a pretty small parking lot and a small number of tables though at least when we came in the car and people traffic wasnt a problem for us. Overall a great spot. Would definitely come back again.
